Agents of SHIELD is a show that fanboys seem to love to hate.  But that hasn’t stop Disney/Marvel from pulling out the stops to win fans over.  Previously it was announced that they would be bringing on Stan Lee to play a significant role unlike his cameo appearances in the Marvel films.  Now news has come down that Bill Paxton will join the cast for a four episode arc in late February.  Paxton will play Agent John Garrett who is described by executive producer Jed Whedon as “a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger”. Maurissa Tancharoen, who also serves as an executive producer adds that Garrett “is the type who wants to stay out in the field no matter how high-level he gets,” and he’ll be joining the show “in a very surprising way.”

For those who may be unfamiliar with the comic book character, Garrett was turned into a cyborg by SHIELD in order to save his life after a critical injury in the line of duty.  It’s unclear if this is the route that they will take the character during the four episode arc.  Whedon states in TV Guide that Garrett “refused to sit behind a desk and doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.”

Even though I have no problem with AOS at the moment, maybe Paxton’s appearance will turn it around for the fans that have not been enjoying the show so far.
