Once it was announced that Joss Whedon would return to TV with S.H.I.E.L.D, a series that will be based in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we assumed he would not only write the pilot but direct as well.  But seeing as how he has taken up the task of overseeing all the films in Phase 2 as well as directing Avengers 2, it was unclear how much of his of is time would be spent on the TV show.  In an interview with, Whedon confirmed his writing and directing of the pilot as well as how far his involvement in the series goes.

He says he will work on the ongoing series “as my schedule allows,” helping the team brainstorm stories in addition to the usual exec producer/overseer stuff of reviewing and approving cuts of episodes.  “I have to maintain a fine balance between not hurting The Avengers, which is my number one priority right now, and not be the guy who shows up once a month and undoes everything that’s been done by everyone else.”

Sounds like the show will have enough Whedon involvement to live up to the standard we all expect from a Whedon created show.  I’m in.
