Director Bryan Singer sent out a tweet last week that exploded the internet with excitement.  The tweet revealed that we would be seeing the X-Men face of against one of their most powerful and popular foes, Apocalypse in their next outing in 2016.  Vulture has confirmed that he will be returning as director and that “the new film is intended to focus strictly on the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast”.  I had a feeling that Days of Future Past would be leading straight into Apocalypse, and this bit of news confirms it.

Could Singer be basing the film on the popular storyline, Age of Apocalypse?  If so, could we possibly see the death of young Professor X?  One component of that story featured a time displaced Bishop as an essential character in it. With Wolverine being the one sent back  in time in DOFP, he may in replace Bishop as the time displaced hero of the story.  But with Hugh Jackman making a statement that he may not return to role leaves that idea up in the air.

For now all I can say is,  it’s about time we see Apocalypse in an X-Men film.   X-Men: Days of Future Past arrives in theaters May 23, 2014 while X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27, 2016.
