After the news of both Bioshock and 24 movies hitting roadblocks to development, at last, some good news, this time for fans of another, less popular, cult favorite.

A new Kickstarter page, intended to fund the long-in-limbo feature-film continuation of Veronica Mars, WB’s murder-mystery teenage detective show which ran from 2004-2007, has reached its two million dollar goal in an unprecedented eleven hours. As of this writing, the page’s funding stands at over 2.5 million dollars with 29 days to go.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s interviews with series creator Rob Thomas (NOT that one), the plan is for the film to shoot over the summer with a subsequent release sometime in the early months of 2014.

I guess all the long-time fans, known as Marshmallows, can rest easy knowing that the future of their favorite pint-sized sleuth (after Nancy Drew) is finally moving forward. Now, if they can just get a third X-Files movie off the ground…
