There has been a lot of interpretations of the Peter Pan tale on film.  From retellings (Peter Pan 2003) to sequels (Steven Spielberg’s Hook), but no one has ever told Peter Pan’s origin story.  Filmmaker Joe Wright (Atonement, Hanna) has decided to take up that challenge and tell the story of Pan’s beginnings in the aptly titled Pan.  What it looks like here is a cross between Oliver Twist and Hook.

I’m not a huge fan of prequels, but with Wright’s involvement as well as the casting of Hugh Jackman as the villain Black Beard, I think I may go along for the ride.  The film also stars Garrett Hedlund as Hook, and Rooney Mara as Tiger Lilly.  Newcomer Levi Miller will play Peter Pan.  The film looks exciting from the trailers and will surely make a great addition to the blockbuster packed summer of 2015.

Pan is set to be released on July 17th, 2015.
