The latest news that is sure to get X-Men fans excited is that Bryan Singer has tweeted that Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart have joined X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Given the storyline from the comics that they are adapting, this wasn’t too much of a surprise for me anyway.  I’m curious to know if X-Men: The Last Stand will still be considered canon after what happen in the events of that film.  Also, will Stewart’s and Mckellen’s appearances be just cameos or a full blown roles?

Singer also tweeted that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult will all return.  No mention on First Class‘ other cast members.  Filming on the upcoming sequel is set to begin early next year.  Singer will be opening the X-universe widely given the success of the Avengers.  We will get to see sentinels and perhaps we will finally get to see an X-Men battle on a large scale.  Something I’ve been hoping to see since the first X-Men. With Singer’s experience with a couple of big budget films and the advance in filmmaking technology, I expect that this will be the case.

X-Men: Days of Future Past releases in theaters on July 18th, 2014.
