After the disappointment that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we will get a second chance to witness a more artfully crafted Wolverine film when The Wolverine is released in to theaters.  The story will be heavily based on the popular Chris Cleremont and Frank Miller Samurai epic and will make for an excellent film.  The studio has released the first official image of Hugh Jackman as the title character.  It’s hard to believe that over ten years ago we were doubting that this Aussie could pull of this fan favorite mutant.  Now we can’t imagine anyone else ever playing the character.

The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, and Rila FukushimaThe Wolverine opens on July 26th, 2013.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.
