Jim Ryan, the head of Playstation Europe spoke at a Vita press event in London where he said, “I think we would consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition.”   The PS3 was released a year after Microsoft’s X-Box 360 and since then, Sony has been playing catch-up.

“There’s still a lot of unfinished business on PS3,”  Ryan added.  “If you look at PlayStation 2, now in excess of 150m units installed globally, a huge majority of that was done at lower price points. There’s a considerable untapped part of the market there for PS3.”

As long as they don’t launch their next console with the hubris they had with the PS3, they should be fine.  Sony has always delivered quality gaming consoles and there is no doubt that they will deliver again.
