Along with a new trailer for Resident Evil 6, Captivate 2012 also featured the debut trailer for Lost Planet 3. The game will be a return to its snowy roots from the first game. The Game takes place before the events of the first game and will take players back to the extreme conditions of E.D.N. III.
Spark Unlimited (Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty) is handling development duties this time around using the Unreal Engine 3 rather than Capcom’s MT Framework that was used in the previous games. Capcom states that Lost Planet 3 will feature the “extreme and unpredictable conditions that characterized the Lost Planet series… harsher than ever before.” The company promises “new truths about the foreboding planet and the colonial history of E.D.N. III.”
Players will control Jim, a blue collar contractor who travels to E.D.N. III for work, “risking assignments in treacherous conditions to earn his hazard pay.” He’ll battle the indigenous Akrid on foot and in his mechanized rig, battling ice storms and space bugs of all shapes and sizes.
I’m usaully a skeptic whenever a prequel to a popular peice of entertainment is announced because sometimes they don’t do the original any justice. I’m also the kind of guy that likes to see stories progress and not regress. My only hope is that the story of Lost Planet 3 is at least Captivating (Pun intended).
The game is expected to be released for the PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 early 2013.
