Since 2001, Bungie has been synonymous with the Halo franchise, which is exclusive to the X-Box 360.  In 2007, Bungie signed a ten year publishing deal with Activision Blizzard.  Since then mum has been the word on what new game Bungie was developing until now.  A reader over at IGN provided leaked materials about their new game Destiny.

The materials includes a description that states: “Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.”  The massive alien ship is referred to as “the Traveler.”

Destiny is also described as “fun and accessible to all,” aiming “to create a universe as deep, tangible and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise.”  Bungie co-founder Jason Jones was quoted as saying “Destiny is designed for your inner seven year old. We want to make it feel like a mythic adventure.”

When asked to give a comment about the validity of the leaked materials, Bungie had this to say:

“We’re not quite ready to take the wraps off our next universe, but in light of recent events we thought we’d give fans something a little more official over at Bungie.net. Feel free to drop by and say hello! There’s much more to come.”

This is what they posted on their site:

Bungie’s agency also provided these:

The gameplay is described as “social at its core,” offering “a world to explore with friends, both old and new.”  This almost sounds like an MMO but it could be just a massive story game with up to 4 player co-op.  Either way I’m excited to check out this game.  No word yet on if this will be released for the next gen consoles, but so far from the art below, we will be getting it on the X-Box 360 and PS3.
